Celebrating International Women's Day – March 8, 2025
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and girls. For 49 years, this day has served as a reminder of the progress made—and the work still needed—to achieve true gender equality. This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” calls on us all to push forward with urgency and purpose.
At CDVS, action is not just a theme—it’s what we do every day. The incredible women of our organization, including our dedicated staff and crisis responder volunteers, rise to the challenge daily. They provide unwavering support and guidance to women of all ages, individuals, families, 2SLGBTQI+ communities, Indigenous communities, and men who have experienced tragedy, crime, or disaster. Their commitment to accelerating action makes a real and lasting impact.
On this special day, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to our staff and crisis responders. Your dedication, strength, and compassion uplift and inspire those around you. You are truly remarkable.
To the women we serve, our community partners, funders, and supporters—we celebrate your resilience, courage, and unwavering spirit.
A special acknowledgment goes to our Executive Director, Dorothy Davis, who is retiring after 27 years of service with CDVS. Dorothy, your leadership, dedication, and countless actions over nearly three decades have transformed and expanded the services that support so many women. We thank you for your profound impact.
May this International Women’s Day be filled with love, joy, and appreciation. And let us remember the words of Kofi Annan:
“There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women.”
Happy International Women’s Day!
The Board of Directors for Caledon Dufferin Victim Services
We would like to acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, Iroquois, Ojibway/Chippewa, Anishinabek, the Metis, and most recently, the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit River. This Territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and the Haldimand Treaty. We are grateful to live and work on this land. The territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes.
